Works out what a room does to a recording made in it: the reverberation time from Sabine, the critical distance, and the direct-to-reverberant ratio at the microphone position you actually have. Past the critical distance the recording is the room rather than the talker, and turning the gain up raises both equally so it cannot help. Halving the reverberation time doubles the absorption and buys 41% more working distance.
