A 9:16 window out of a 1920x1080 source is 608 pixels wide, and it is placed by clamping. A subject near the edge gets a window shoved off centre - still containing them, no longer centred on them - and past a certain arrangement no single window holds everyone at all. This does that arithmetic in source pixels, along with the upscale the reframe costs and the pan rate a speaker timeline actually produces after short turns merge.
